James Genos, 97, of Champion, OH passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at his home.
He was born August 14, 1928, in Yorkville, OH, the son of Anastasios and Catherine Genos.
James was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and furthered his education at Youngstown State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. James entered the United States Air Force on September 6, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio and was honorably discharged on July 15, 1949. He received the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.
He worked as an accountant for the IRS for over 30 years. Also, James was a member and nursing home ministry team leader at North Mar Church.
On February 27, 1965, he married the former Martha R. Veres and they have shared 60 happily married years together.
James enjoyed playing tennis, chess, playing with his grandchildren and cheering them on at their sporting events. He was also an avid fan of Cleveland sports.
He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Rose Genos of Champion, OH; children, Dr. Jeff (Michelle) Genos of Twinsburg, OH, Katie (Dr. Tim) Custer of Asheville, NC, and Matt Genos of Frederick, MD; daughter-in-law, Jen Genos; sister-in-law, Pam Genos of Ravenna, OH; brother-in-law, Dr. Frank (Trish) Veres of Champion, OH; grandchildren, Spencer, Logan, CJ, Leah (Mark), Luke, Hope (Nathan), Riley, Ethan, and Jacob along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ethel Theodore; and brother, Pete Genos.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 15, 2025, at North Mar Church, 3855 E Market St, Warren, OH 44484, where Pastor Paul Armitage will officiate.
Friends may call from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, December 15, 2025, at North Mar Church.
He will be laid to rest privately in Oakwood Cemetery, Warren, OH.
In lieu of flowers please make contributions in James' memory to the Bella Women's Center, 1192 North Rd NE, Warren, OH 44483, or to Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund at www.johnnymac.org.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
