Gone Fishing
With deep love and heavy hearts, we – Nicole Hunt Johnson, Nate Hunt, Marna Hunt, and Penny Hunt - announce the passing of our beloved father, Nathan K. Hunt, born on October 21, 1937 in Salem, Ohio, to Nathan Charles and Marjorie Bertha Hunt. Nate lived a life full of adventure, family, and passion for the sea. He passed away at the age of 87 in Destin, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and dedication.
Nate was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife and mother of his four children, Marilyn Patricia ("Mary Pat") Hunt; his second wife, Rosalie Weston Hunt; and his sister Nancy Hunt Brand.
He is lovingly remembered by his four children: Penny Jo Hunt, Nicole Hunt Johnson, Nathan Boone Hunt (Connie), and Marna Elizabeth Hunt. He also leaves behind his sister Majorie Brand; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren, along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
A man of boundless ambition, Nate was a successful businessman, a devoted father and grandfather, and a lifelong fisherman. A proud graduate of Seacrest High School's Class of 1956 in Delray Beach, Florida, he turned his passion for the ocean into a career as a skilled charter boat captain, known to many as "Bronco". Alongside Mary Pat, he built Captain's Landing on Marco Island in the 1960s – a place that became a home for fellow seafarers and lovers of the Gulf Coast.
When he wasn't on the water leading fishing charters – often from Bud N' Mary's Marina in the Florida Keys – Nate oversaw a marina, raised and released sea turtles, and served as a proud member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. His adventurous spirit carried him and his family from the shores of Florida to the mountains of Highlands, North Carolina, and back to the waters of Destin, Florida.
Nate's life was a testament to hard work, love, and an unbreakable bond with the sea. His stories, laughter, and wisdom will be dearly m, missed but forever cherished.
Fair winds and following seas, Captain.
