***********************
Nathan Lee McCarty was born June 26, 1986 in Belcourt, North Dakota to Tommie McCarty Jr. and Rose (St. Claire) McCarty. He was an enrolled member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa through his mom, with Mandan Hidatsa Arikara heritage on his dad's side. He was given the traditional name "Maaishu Giree" which translates to Flying Eagle.
Nate was raised in Belcourt and New Town, where he attended school. He later earned his GED at Burdick Job Corps in Minot. He was a jack-of-all-trades, and with his intelligence, could figure pretty much anything out.
He was easy to be around and had a great sense of humor. Nate was very friendly, and he touched a lot of lives. He loved being outdoors and spent a lot of time with his grandpa fishing and hunting. He was very close to his father, and he held a special place in his heart for his daughters, whom he loved deeply.
On June 21, 2025, Nathan began his journey to the spirits where he joined his brother, Tayln McCarty; grandparents, Quentin Beston, Diane Lenoir, Peter and Mary St. Claire, Roseanne and Roy Poitra; and uncle Maurice Lee Merrick.
Nathan is survived by his parents, Tommie McCarty and Rose (St. Claire) McCarty; daughter, Jasmine, Haley, and Kiana McCarty; brother, Thomas McCarty; sisters, Brianna and Natasha McCarty; grandmother, Vivian Darlene Fox; aunts, Della Merrick, Deborah Beston, and Rhonda Robbins; uncles, David St. Claire, Harlan McCarty, Kevin Beston, and Tracy Robbins; and many nieces and nephews.
Active Pallbearers: Ryan Jackson, Dante Rios, Dillon Nelson, Francis Duchaine, Josh Lee, Calvin Grady, Robbie Knight, Trey Sartwell
