Nathan "Nate" Sesson, 95, of Yardville, NJ passed away peacefully on the morning of November 13, 2024 at Lawrence Rehabilitation and Healthcare, Lawrence, NJ. As a result, our hearts are a little less bright but we know that Heaven is filled with extra doses of joy, peace and laughter.
Born in Trenton, NJ to Suzanne Turner, Nate grew up in the Lincoln Homes, Trenton, NJ. He was educated in the Trenton Public Schools, graduating from the New Lincoln School then Trenton Central High School in 1948. He was a well-known star athlete in school, nicknamed "Joe Nate", while playing basketball, track and field and football. Nate medaled in basketball and track and field. His excellence in these sports was noted in Trenton area newspapers.
A Veteran of the United States Army, Nate retired as a postal service clerk from the United States Postal Service after many years. He was an avid stamp collector during his employment. Nate lived a very active lifestyle as a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and a member of King David Lodge No. 15 F & AM Masons. Initially, retirement was fun and relaxing but he became restless. So, he entered semi-retirement as a certified school bus driver for local children. The children thrilled him each day of the school year.
Anyone who knew Nate knew he loved to watch and play golf anywhere. He treasured traveling with his wife on vacations or to visit family members and close friends. His elder year activities included bowling and being an active participant at the Hamilton Senior Center. He always enjoyed talking and sharing with folks that he was a Philadelphia Eagles football fan.
Nathan was predeceased by his mother Suzanne Turner, aunt- surrogate mother Mrs. Edna Knight, sisters-in-law: Janie L. Hannon, Dorothy Mae McCoy, Yvonne King, Brenda Blackburn and Mary Benjamin and brothers-in-law: Elder Walter King, Raymond Benjamin Jr. and Dr. Aaron Benjamin.
Nathan will forever be remembered by his devoted wife Carrie M. Sesson of 53 years, one son Kim M. Young (Elaine Batie, partner) of Williamstown, NJ, three grandchildren: Kim Michael Young Jr. (Donna Jenkins-Young), Chaze Nathan Young (Tequia Young) and Khalil Batie; seven great grandchildren: Wynter J. Young, Dominique M. Young, Shayla Z. Young, Mykhl K. Young, Ryeli B. Young, Saige Green and Blyss R. Young; sisters-in-law: Geraldine Fudge, Elizabeth Robinson (Willie), Mary L. Jones and Patricia A. Jackson; former daughter-in-law, Robin Young; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, his Lincoln Homes family and friends.
Nate loved life and he did his best to live it well.
Funeral service will be 12pm Friday, November 22, 2024 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 340 Rev. S. Howard Woodson Jr Way, Trenton, NJ 08618. Calling hours will be 10am until time of service. Interment will be Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ.
