Neal Fletcher, 78, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025 at her home in Meridian.

Graveside services are 11:00 am Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at Old Marion Cemetery in Meridian. There will be no visitation. Brother Gary Glazier will officiate the service.

Neal is survived by her husband of 58 years George Timothy Fletcher, Jr., daughters Teri J. Edwards (David), Shana L. Kitsos (Jeff), and Stacy Culpepper (Trey), grandchildren Jessica Hill (Cody), John Philip Edwards, Riley Walker (Zach), Ben Patrick Carpenter, Lathan Kade Carpenter, Brinnon Powell, and Mary Alzie Culpepper, great-grandchild Nora Snow Hill, brother Perry L. Sims (Dot), her lifetime friend/sister-in-law Gail Sims Mobley, and several nieces and nephews.

"Mawmaw" played a profound role in shaping the lives of her six grandchildren, whom she loved deeply and unconditionally. Through her nurturing presence, she helped mold them into the strong, compassionate young adults they are today. She lovingly cared for all six while their mothers worked, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Every afternoon, Mawmaw made the school run in what the grandchildren fondly called "The Magic School Bus" - her trusty Honda Pilot. If only that car could talk, it would tell stories of giggles, sibling banter, and joyful McDonald's stops that became treasured traditions. Later in life, Mawmaw gained her seventh grandchild and one great-grandchild. Mary and Nora Snow always brought a smile to her face, even when the only words she knew were "I Love You."

Music and a love for children were central to Neal's life. She spent many years playing piano for the 2nd grade Sunday School class at First Baptist Church, sharing her gift and faith with young hearts. Her musical journey began early, as a trumpet player in the Southeast High School Marching Band. Her home was often filled with the sounds of Christian music, a reflection of her enduring faith and joyful spirit.

Neal shared a special bond with her sister-in-law, Gail. Despite the distance between them, their relationship was marked by long phone calls, heartfelt conversations, and treasured visits. Whether shopping, talking late into the night, or simply sitting together on the porch, Neal deeply valued every moment they spent together.

She was a strong Christian woman who led by example, living her faith with grace and humility. Her legacy of love, strength, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Harper Hospice, specifically Chasity and Mary, for their love and care throughout this long illness. Also, a special thank you to all of the caregivers who faithfully shared love, laughter, and the heartaches associated with the level of care needed. We could not have made it without you.

She is preceded in death by her parents John L. and Velma Mae Roberson Sims and brothers James E. Sims and Lewis E. Sims.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in her memory.
