It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Neil Andrei Abad, beloved son, brother, and friend, who left us unexpectedly in a tragic car accident on September 22, 2025. He was born in Davao City, Philippines on December 31, 2001 and moved to Houston, Texas on March 8, 2013.
Though his time with us was far too short, his life was filled with love, laughter, and a spirit that touched everyone he met. Affectionate and kindhearted, Neil was known for his hugs, goofy smirk, and ability to make people laugh without even trying. Any individual who got to cross paths with him at any point in his life was no stranger to him. He had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and loved.
Neil grew up surrounded by faith and family. He was a devout member of the Church of Christ, singing in the children's choir and eventually as a tenor in the adult choir. Taught to pray and worship at a young age, he lived giving all glory to God. Through his faith he met many of his friends who then became lifelong brothers and sisters. His humble heart, resilience, and thoughtfulness made it easy to love and care for him throughout the different stages of his life. To his many kuyas (older brothers) and ates (older sisters) he wasn't just a friend, but a true little brother.
As a hard-working nursing student set to graduate summer of 2026, Neil had one of the most genuine hearts. His eagerness to help people shined in all environments, including in his clinical rotations where his empathy and knowledge was evident. While attending the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing in Galveston, he also quickly developed a connection with his peers. Together they studied for hours, shared hobbies, and built friendships based on dependability, supportiveness, and adventure. In addition, it did not take long before his instructors recognized his good intuition, profound intelligence and incredible work ethic.
Neil enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball, but was also willing to try any sport. As a teammate on the court, he was known for his healthy competitiveness, constant willingness to improve, teachability, and infectious optimism. From his smooth 3-point shots, to his explosive spikes as an outside hitter, his natural athleticism combined with passion was nothing short of remarkable. Aside from staying active through sports, Neil cherished late night drives, gym sessions, fishing trips, modifying and maintaining his cars, building his Minecraft world, and most importantly, sharing quality time with his friends and parents.
Above all, he shared an inseparable bond with his parents Florendo, Jennie, and late younger brother, Jude, whose compassion and big hearts shaped the wonderful person he became to be.
Neil is survived by his parents, Florendo and Jennie Abad, and by countless friends who became extended family.
Neil lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. His legacy is one of joy, love, and kindness. He is a reminder that even in a short span of time, one can deeply impact the lives of many.
All who knew and loved him are welcome to join in remembering and honoring his life.
Rest easy, little brother. You are deeply loved, and will never be forgotten.
