Neil Basil Liedel, 87, of Temperance, Michigan, formerly of Maybee, entered eternal rest on November 1, 2025. Born July 15, 1938, he was the third of five children of Arthur J. and Rosalie (Geoferson) Liedel.
On July 15, 1961, Neil married the love of his life, Sharon Dorothea (Lozon). Together they shared 64 years of marriage, raising their family and creating a warm, loving home. They lived in Maybee for more than 60 years before later residing in Temperance.
Neil proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and later devoted 30 years to Ford Motor Company before retiring. A faithful Catholic throughout his life, he was a man of humble strength, quiet faith, and deep devotion to his loved ones.
In his healthier years, Neil enjoyed woodworking, bowling, hunting, bike riding, and playing poker; especially during casino trips shared with Sharon. He was also a devoted Detroit Tigers fan and loved cheering on his team through every season. Euchre was one of his favorite pastimes and remained a joy to him even as his health declined in later years.
Neil is survived by his loving wife: Sharon; his children: Rosalie (Eric) Woodward and Steven (Jennifer) Liedel; grandchildren: Amanda, Robert, Timothy, Travis, Matthew, Katie, Cody, and Erica; and great-grandchildren: Logan, Mark Jr., Lucas, Olivia, and Braxton. He is also survived by siblings: Leo and Dave. He was preceded in death by his children: Neil and Bonnie; his brother: Gerry; and his sister: Judy.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00pm. A funeral Mass will take place at 10:00am Thursday, November 6, 2025, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; 511 South Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48161, with visitation from 9:00am until 10:00am. Procession will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery in Maybee, Michigan for burial, with a luncheon afterward.
Neil's legacy is one of love, faith, hard work, and family. His strength, loyalty, and quiet devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
