Neil Taueu Tevaseu Misa, 79, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024, in Common Spirit Holy Cross Hospital of Jordan Valley. He was born on September 10th, 1944 in Failolo, American Samoa to Mele & Taueu Misa. His first marriage was to Sally Ann Stephens in 1968 and had 3 children. He later married his current wife, Tolu Fa'alogo in 1979 and had 3 more children. They were married and sealed for all time and eternity in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Los Angeles Temple in September 8, 1984.
Neil Misa was the oldest child of 10 children to Mele & Taueu Misa. Neil spent his early years being raised in American Samoa, in Amanave, Failolo & Tafuna. As the oldest he was constantly tasked with taking care of his younger siblings and being a role model to them – something he continued to be until the day he passed away.
Neil was born and raised in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and he was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints church on November 17, 1962 while he was residing with his Auntie Lefoua who was a member of the church. He developed his testimony early on and never steered from it. He deeply loved the church and serving in it. He strived to be the best disciple of Jesus Christ he could be by magnifying and fulfilling his callings. Neil served in many callings including Scoutmaster, Sunday School President, Elders Quorum President, Stake Auditor, Bishop (2 terms), High Councilman (4 terms). He served as a temple coordinator in the Los Angeles and Oakland Temples. In 2008, Neil and Tolu served a couple mission in the Oakland Mission in the Church Employment Center as Employment Specialists.
Neil was a Matai (chief) in the Samoan culture – he held the Tevaseu title from Siumu, Western Samoa.
Neil was very talented and was had different occupations such as a deep sea diver who won many competitions, a kung-fu master, an auto and diesel mechanic and was certified in refrigeration.
