Nelda Jo Burnside

Nelda Jo Burnside passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the age of 92 in Farmersville, Texas on Thursday, April 25, 2024. She was born to Roy Lokey and Clara (Hickman) Lokey in Princeton, Texas on January 24, 1932.
Nelda is survived by her grandchildren Stephanie and Davis Scherer, Jimmy and Ashley Gatlin, Stacey and Karl Murphy, Gary and Mandy Burnside, her great grandchildren Jacob Scherer, Emily Gatlin, Haley Gatlin, Shelbi Burnside, Rylie Callan, Peyton Burnside, Kailee Burnside, her great-great grandchildren Scarlet Hopkins, and Salem Cloudt. As well as several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Clara Lokey, brothers Berlin and Kenneth, sisters Wilma, Mary, and Mildred; her loving husband of 49 years, Hulen; her son Ronnie Burnside; daughters Lesa Burnside, and Threcia Gatlin.
Nelda met and married her husband Hulen Burnside on June 15, 1949 in Princeton, Texas. They settled in Farmersville and raised their children and grandchildren here. She loved to go camping and travel. Nelda also prided herself on cooking for friends and family. Nelda worked for Texas Instruments as a secretary for over 30 years. She also taught Sunday school at First United Methodist Farmersville for many years.
A Visitation will be held at Hurst's Fielder-Baker Funeral Home on Monday, April 29, from 6:00-8:00PM. A Funeral service will take place at the Methodist Church in Farmersville on Tuesday, April 30 at 2:00PM. A burial will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
