Mrs. Nelda Jean Atkins Stanley, 82, of Dobson, NC passed away June 7, 2024. Born June 1, 1942, in Surry County, to the late Lacy Lincoln and Beulah Johnson Atkins. Nelda was a devout Christian, she loved the Lord, and was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church where she cultivated her relationship with Christ. She showed her love through cooking and helping her family. Her true joy was her great grandsons. “Great Nanny Stanley” thought the sun rose and set in those boys. Left to cherish her memory is her children, Mark and Donna Stanley, Teresa and Mike Slate; grandchildren, Chase Harrison, Ryan and Kinsley Stanley, Raven and Chris Hockenbury, and Reid and Ally Stanley; great grandsons, Rhett Hockenbury, Stetson Stanley, and Hudson Stanley; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann Atkins, Peggy Combs, Jerry and Freddie Stanley; as well as special, special friends, Judy Cook, Kristi Shore, Clay Turman, and W.G. Ireland. Along with her parents, Nelda was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobby Dean Stanley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Geraldine and Gary Shelton, “Joe” and Bernie Phillips; and brother, G.W. Atkins. A funeral service will be held Monday, June 10, 2024, at Bear Creek Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Pastor Marty Reece officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, June 10, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow the service in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home at P.O. Box 315, Dobson, NC 27017.
