Peggy Mayes Holyfield, age 86, passed away peacefully on August 29th, 2025. Born September 25, 1938, Peggy was known for her warm heart, strong spirit, and the love she poured into both her family and her home.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Curtis Asbury Holyfield, Jr., her parents John Edward (Ed) Mayes and Lela Mayes, and her siblings: Kathleen Brown, Jestine Eads, Christine Pike, Annie Wall, Lester Mayes, and Ellis Mayes. She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law Larry Gray Holyfield.
Peggy is survived by her beloved son Tony Holyfield and daughter-in-law Abby Holyfield, along with her treasured grandson, Eli Holyfield, who brought her immense joy and pride. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Reynolda Newman and several nieces and nephews.
Peggy had a gift for creating warmth and comfort, which showed her in love of baking homemade cakes and her dedication to keeping a beautiful, welcoming home. Her kitchen was often filled with the sweet aroma of something fresh from the oven, and her home was a reflection of the care and love she gave to those around her.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 12:00 PM in the Moody-Davis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Butch Spurlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Level Cross UMC Cemetery.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Dunmore Plantation and Mountain Valley Hospice for their exceptional care, compassion, and kindness shown to Peggy in her final days. Their support was a true blessing.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to donate to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
