Nelia Antonia Severet, affectionately known as Nelly Antonia, passed away peacefully on February 12,
2024, in Staten Island, New York. Born on December 15, 1938, in San Francisco de Macoris, Dominican
Republic, Nelly brought warmth and joy to all who knew her throughout her 85 years of life.
Nelly's journey began in her native land, where she earned an Associate Degree in Nursing, a testament
to her lifelong commitment to caring for others. Her nurturing spirit led her to emigrate from the
Dominican Republic, initially settling in the vibrant neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York
City. It was there that Nelly's resilience and determination shone as she worked as a nurse's aide, among
other roles, and proudly became a U.S. citizen. Eventually, she made her way to Staten Island, making a
loving home for her family and becoming a cherished member of the community.
Those who knew Nelly will remember her as the loving and generous soul that she was. She was a
woman of faith, whose beliefs guided her through life's challenges and triumphs. Her presence was a
comforting force, and her legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of her beloved family.
Nelly is survived by her devoted husband, Fausto Severet, with whom she shared a beautiful and
enduring partnership. Together, they built a life filled with mutual respect, affection, and unwavering
support. She was a guiding light for her two daughters, Larissa Schielein and Arlene Severet, instilling in
them the values of kindness and compassion. As a mother-in-law to Steve Schielein, she extended her
warmth and hospitality, embracing him as part of the family.
Nelly's interests were a reflection of her vibrant spirit and her love for her heritage. She found joy in the
simple pleasures of life, whether it was preparing a delicious meal for her family, swaying to the rhythms
of Spanish music, or expressing her creativity through arts and crafts. Her hobbies were not just
pastimes but ways to connect with her loved ones and share the richness of her culture.
To say that Nelly was loving, generous, and faith-filled is to capture only a glimpse of the extraordinary
woman she was. Her impact on those around her was profound, and her absence will be deeply felt.
However, the memories of her laughter, her wisdom, and her unwavering positivity will continue to
inspire and comfort all who were privileged to know her.
Nelly Antonia Severet's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of love, care, and joy. As we
bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we take solace in knowing that her spirit will forever be a
guiding light for her family and all who cherished her. Her journey on earth may have concluded, but her
story will be told for generations to come, a narrative of a life well-lived and a heart that gave so
generously.
In keeping with Nelly's loving nature, we will remember her not with sadness but with gratitude for the
time we had with her. We celebrate her life, her contributions, and the countless ways she enriched our
lives. Nelly Antonia Severet will be dearly missed, yet her spirit will continue to live on through the love
she shared and the lives she touched.
