Nell Laden Dicus was born on November 6, 1932, in Hardin County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Johnnie E. and Verna Phillips Laden.
On December 30, 1952, she was united in marriage to James Frank Dicus, who preceded his wife in death on November 4, 2003.
Nell graduated from Frank Hughes High School in Clifton, Tennessee, and then went on to graduate from Draughon's Business College in Nashville, Tennessee. Throughout her life, Nell worked in the retail industry. In her earlier years, she worked as the secretary for Don G. Wilson, the maternal grandfather of Elizabeth Dicus, at National Pencil Company. She was a member of the Savannah Church of Christ, and a former member of Fairlane Church of Christ in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Nell enjoyed gardening flowers, playing dominoes and canasta, entertaining her friends and family, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Nell delighted in watching her granddaughter, Elizabeth, perform in ballet recitals and attending her grandson, Kendrick's, baseball games. She loved collecting antique dishes and traveling. Nell cherished the trips that she and her sister-in-law, Ruth, would take to San Francisco, California.
Nell Laden Dicus departed this life on August 22, 2025, in Savannah, Tennessee, at the age of 92 years, 9 months, and 16 days.
She is survived by her son, Eric Dicus; grandchildren, Elizabeth Dicus and her partner Max Held, and Kendrick Dicus; great grandchildren, Ioma Held, Iris Held, and Etta Held; sisters-in-law, Jan Dicus and Ruth Vercelli; and a host of extended family, including the Laden, Phillips, and Dicus families.
