Nellie Mae Blair, a cherished matriarch and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully at her home on October 16, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on May 3, 1928, in Courtois, Missouri, Nellie lived a life defined by her unwavering love for her family, her generous spirit, and her steadfast commitment to her community.

Growing up in Courtois, Nellie was educated at Antioch School, where her early years were marked by the values of hard work, kindness, and honesty that would guide her throughout her life. A devoted mother to her eight children—Gary Blair and his wife, Gail, Shirley Hitt, Patsy Draper, Joann Botkin and her husband, Stormy, Doris Keith, Ronald Blair and Jennifer Piper, Jackie Blair and his wife, Ramona, and Michael Blair—Nellie's nurturing spirit touched many lives. Her legacy continues through her fifteen grandchildren, Shawn, Misty, Jason, Julie, Dean, Deanna, Jeremy, Nicole, Eddie, Katie, Melissa, Erica, Makayla, Isaac, and Neveah, as well as her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family who will carry her memory forward.

Nellie's passions extended beyond her family; she was deeply active in her community, participating in events at the Antioch Community Center, including the chicken and dumplings dinner fundraiser. With a green thumb, she spent many summers tending to her vegetable garden, proudly canning the fruits of her labor not only for herself but for her children as well. Nellie Loved the Lord above all. She was a longtime member of Adam Bethel Church of God. Her home was a gathering place for most Sunday's filled with laughter, warmth, and delicious meals, a testament to her generous heart and dedication to ensuring her loved ones were well cared for.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred L. Blair; her parents, William and Effie (Scott) Dawes; her brother, Jesse Dawes; three sons-in-law: Bruce Hitt, Jimmy Draper, and Rick Keith; as well as her grandson, Tyler Blair, and great-granddaughter, Jolene Wethy. Each of these losses left a distinct mark on her heart, yet she carried their memories with grace and strength throughout her life.

Nellie's visitation will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the DeClue Family Funeral Home in Potosi, followed by a funeral service starting at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman who embodied love, honesty, and generosity, we honor her memory with the same warmth she extended to all around her. Nellie Mae Blair will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and friends.
