Mrs. Nellie Mae Evans formerly Bowen has passed peacefully surrounded by family in Sanford, FL on August 21st, 2025 at the age of 92. Nellie is survived by her son Richard Aaron Evans Jr. of Sanford FL, daughter Patricia A. Evans of Orange City, FL, Grandsons Brian Dieguez, Stephen Evans Gage Evans of Sanford FL. granddaughters Lisa Gobran of Buford GA and Danielle Evans of Geneva FL, and 6 Great grandchildren Makenna, Kamryn, Abigail, Halaina, Jeremiah, Jaxson. Nellie was born on January 27th,1933 in Geneva FL to Mattie Mae Bowen and Bomer Bowen. She graduated from Seminole high School in 1951. In 1952 she married her husband of 57 years Richard Evans Sr. After moving to New Orleans in 1952, Nellie worked as a telephone operator at McCrory's. In the mid-50s Nellie and Richard moved back to Geneva FL where she raised her two children, she also worked for a chicken farm in Geneva, FL for many years. She then went on to work for Robalo Cobia boats doing upholstery. She retired and became a mother figure in her grandchildren's lives. Nellie was a member of the Geneva Methodist Church as well as the first United Methodist Church of Sanford. She also spent many years caretaking for her mother and her husband Richard. Nellie had a special love for animals. She raised farm animals, when she was young She also loved her companion dog Watson who she devoted her attention to for the last 18 years. Nellie was a god-fearing Christian. She was a giver. She donated to every cause that she could. She loved her family and most of all she let it show in every act of kindness she did. We will miss her letters in the mail. We will miss her smile and her hugs. God has called you home. You are at peace in heaven. Pain free reunited with your one true love, given the crown of glory for being a good and faithful servant. Never forgotten and always cherished. We love you Grandma/ Mama A viewing is scheduled for August 26 between 3-6 at DeGusipe Funeral Home in Sanford. Flowers and Condolences may be sent to DeGusipe Funeral Home in Sanford.
