Calvin Bryant Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Degusipe Funeral Home & Crematory - Sanford Chapel on Jan. 8, 2026.
In Loving Memory of

Calvin Lewis Bryant

Calvin Lewis Bryant was born on May 11, 1960, in Sanford, Florida, to the late Willie L. Bryant, Sr. and

Maggie Lean Larry. In time, his life was further shaped by the love of his devoted stepmother, the late Gloria

Schuler, who lovingly gathered together what became affectionately known as their "Brady Bunch" family.

Through this blended bond, ten siblings were woven into one household of shared stories, laughter, and

resilience. Calvin was the third eldest among them, a steady presence within a lively and loving family circle.

Calvin attended Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida. Later in life, while living in New York, he

demonstrated quiet determination and perseverance by earning his high school GED, an achievement that

reflected his resolve and strength of spirit. For many years, Calvin worked throughout Seminole and Orange

Counties in the auto auction industry and at various car dealerships, where he was known as a dedicated and

hardworking car detailer. His strong work ethic carried him faithfully until physical limitations from a back

injury brought his working years to a close.

One of Calvin's greatest joys was the game of billiards. The pool table was more than a pastime, it was a place

of comfort, camaraderie, and cherished memory. He proudly competed in and won several tournaments over the

years, but even more meaningful were the moments spent playing alongside his beloved big brother, Nate,

affectionately known as "The Great Okinawa Slim." Calvin often reminisced about those early days at his

father's pool hall on 13th Street, where the rhythm of the game and the warmth of family shaped some of his

fondest memories.

Above all else, Calvin will be remembered as a loving brother, a devoted (bonus) father to Valarie Laruth, a cherished

grandfather to Janaya Denise, and a loyal friend whose presence left a gentle mark on many lives. He

transitioned from this life on January 5, 2026, at the Sanford Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Sanford,

Florida. During the final three years of his life, he was tenderly cared for and steadfastly advocated for by his

beloved sister, Carrie Bryant, whose love and dedication never wavered.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Willie L. Bryant, Sr. and Maggie Lean Larry; his stepmother,

Gloria Schuler; and his sister, Veronica Bryant-Newton.

He leaves to cherish his memory five brothers: Willie Bryant, Jr. (Barbara) of Covington, Georgia; Nathaniel

Bryant (Kei) of Marietta, Georgia; George (Melazone) Rouse of Sanford, Florida; David Rouse of Sanford,

Florida; and Walter Bryant of Sanford, Florida. He also leaves three sisters: Loria Boone of Sanford, Florida;

Deborah Bryant of Sanford, Florida; and Carrie Bryant of Sanford, Florida. In addition, he is lovingly

remembered by a wide circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, each carrying forward a piece of his

story.

Though Calvin's earthly journey has ended, his spirit lives on in shared laughter, treasured memories, and the

quiet love he poured into those around him. His life remains a testament that even ordinary moments, when

lived with heart, become extraordinary legacies.
