     Nellie Sue Gass Williams, 73, of Hickory, NC, passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the Catawba Valley Hospice House in Newton.

 

     Nellie was born in Kingsport, Tennessee on December 8, 1949, to the late James Edward “Ed” Gass and Desta Slemp Gass. On July 28, 1969, she married James E. Williams. Nellie retired from Hickory Hill Furniture after many years of dedicated service. Until her health declined, Nellie attended Fairbrook Baptist Church. She was active in the Church Nursery and as a children’s Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed the outdoors, crossword puzzles, and Sudoku. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

 

     In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Hensley and Janice Summey.

 

     Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 54 years, James Williams; children, Kristy Harris (Shane) and Jason Williams; grandchildren, Hannah Washburn (Brad), Billy Ross, Noah Ross, Lauren Williams, and Tyler Harris (Madison); and great grandchildren, Dakota Washburn and Hudson Harris.

 

     A funeral will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Fairbrook Baptist Church in Hickory. Pastor Rick Davis will officiate. Burial will follow at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the Church.
