Nelly Ortiz

Nelly Ortiz was born November 6th 1937 in Yauco Puerto Rico to Salustiano Ortiz and Rosa Elisa Ruiz. Nelly passed away on September 26th 2025 at 87 years old. Nelly came to Brooklyn, New York in December 23, 1968 with her children. Nelly was a homemaker dedicating herself to her family. Nelly was a seamstress and an amazing cook, known for her pasteles around the holidays. Nelly is preceded in death by her son Rene and survived by her children Lille, Norma (Iris), Lydia, Onelia, Abimael (Papo), Abigail (Tata), Enrique (Junior) and Hector and a slew of grandchildren and great grand children and 14 great great grand children as well as an abundance of extended family and friends. Nelly was also taken care of by many home attendants which became our family, Olivet, Luz, Fatima, Columba, Juliet and Marlen. Her nurses Nathalie and Tatiana who visited her home, as well as nurses and staff at Sea Crest Rehabilitation Center where she was blessed with her roommate Rosemarie who was her voice when we weren't around. Nelly was a breast cancer survivor who battled Alzheimer's for over 10 years and we walk for her as Nelly's Voice. Nelly was vivacious, spunky, a fighter, caring, tough, loving and an amazing cook to name a few. We were blessed to have her for 87 years, all of our lives. I'm sure your final message to us would be to love each other hard, through the happy times and the tough ones as well. In true Nelly fashion...."Quien quiere Café?! Dios me lo Bendiga!"
