NETTIE MYKITYSHYN MACRAE
The Last of the Mykityshyn Sisters
Nettie Mykityshyn Macrae passed away at the age of 98 years on June 21, 2023. She was born in Jersey City on February 10, 1925 to Michael and Nettie (nee Ushay) Mykityshyn. She was the sixth of seven sisters: Anna Riesen, Pauline Bogan, Lulu Mykityshyn, Olga OReilly, Vera Brady and Dorothy Canzano. She is also predeceased by her dearest friend for 80 years, Lucille Kopko.
On October 4, 1947 Nettie married Robert (Sonny) Macrae, a World War II veteran. They had two daughters, Gail Di Stefano (John) and Robbin Aptacy (Walter). Nettie is also survived by her three adored grandchildren Garrett, Christopher and Jennifer Aptacy and two adored step-grandchildren Ashley DeAntonio (Robert) and Johnnie Di Stefano (Jessica). Nettie was blessed to share her love with great grandson Grayson Aptacy, great step-grandaughters Ella and Eliza DeAntonio. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Nettie was very proud to have been a Sunday School teacher at Greenville Reformed Church in Jersey City. She went on to become a Home Health Aide compassionately caring for her patients and maintaining friendships with her patients and their families.
After retirement, Nettie became a passionate shopper and coupon clipper loving the sales at Macys and Lord and Taylor (among other businesses). She was well known at the Brookdale ShopRite where she cruised the aisles for bargains and exercise. Nettie drove her Buick Century until she was 96 years old. She then donated the Buick to the Veterans in memory of Sonny.
Nettie lived a love filled long life and is now at peace with her husband, beloved parents, sisters and friend Lucille. She will be missed but left us with many loving memories. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Nettie, please visit our Tree Store.
