Shirley MacRae, born July 8, 1935, in Groveland, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2025, at the age of 89.
Throughout her life, Shirley held a variety of jobs, but she was most proud of her role as a devoted mother and homemaker. In the late 1970s, she broke new ground by becoming one of the first police matrons with the Rowley Police Department, serving her community with dedication and compassion. Later, she concluded her career as an insurance administrator for John Hancock Insurance Company.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Robert, her brother Scott Maker and his partner Michael; their four children: Brian and his wife Donna of Salisbury, Massachusetts; Andrea Barry and her husband Edward of Cary, North Carolina; Glenn and his wife Keri of Ipswich, Massachusetts; and Alan and his wife Shelley of Andover, Massachusetts. Shirley also leaves behind nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Shirley's life will be July 20, 2025, 12PM; near what would have been her 90th birthday. Burial will be private.
Shirley will be remembered for her warmth, her fun loving spirit, and her unwavering commitment to her family and community.
