Nghiem V. Tran, 67, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on January 5, 2025 at Riverside Hospital surrounded in love by his family.

Born on October 31, 1957, in Thoi Vinh, Vietnam, to Riem and Sen Tran, Nghiem lived a remarkable life devoted to his family, community, and the pursuit of the American Dream. In 1975, at the age of 18, Nghiem immigrated to the United States. From the moment he arrived, he worked tirelessly to build a life for his family and contribute to his community. By the age of 25 he was working for Ohio Liquor Control, and for the past 30 years, he has been the proud owner of multiple Central Ohio liquor stores; most recently, ABC Liquor Store. A true entrepreneur, Nghiem embraced every opportunity with determination, earning an Associate’s Degree in Business from Franklin University and pursuing numerous successful ventures throughout his life.

Nghiem was not only the patriarch of his family but also a cornerstone of the Columbus Vietnamese community. Over the past 45 years, his leadership, guidance, and generosity have helped countless Vietnamese families establish their lives in the United States. From securing housing and employment to navigating the challenges of a new country, Nghiem’s efforts have positively impacted generations.

Known for his boundless energy and willingness to help anyone in need, Nghiem exemplified the entrepreneurial spirit. His kindness and unwavering commitment to others earned him the admiration and gratitude of all who knew him.

Nghiem is survived by his beloved wife, Khuong "Thi" Tran, and their sons, Charlie and William (Amy Nguyen), who were his ultimate pride and joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Nhiem (Hai) Vu and Hang (Mehrdad Vafaee) Tran; his brothers, Thang "TT" Tran and Dac (Brandi) Tran; and many cherished uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.

Nghiem’s absence will be deeply felt by his family, friends, and the central Ohio community. His legacy of love, leadership, and generosity will live on through the countless lives he touched.

Nghiem’s extraordinary life will be celebrated on Thursday, January 16 from 6-8pm at Newcomer Funeral home, located at 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd, Columbus, OH 43231, with a prayer service at 7:15 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint James The Less Catholic Church. Immediately following the Mass, Nghiem will be interned at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lewis Center, Ohio. Friends are invited to honor his memory and share in the joy of his remarkable journey.

The family appreciates your condolences and respectfully requests no flowers or donations.
