Gwen dedicated herself to her family, her community, and her work. She retired from civil employment after a distinguished career and was a proud Co-Owner of James Heating and Cooling. Her generous spirit was evident in her commitment to helping others. She also had a strong philanthropic focus, regularly making donations to support organizations like Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.
Gwen embraced life with a joyful, practical wisdom, often sharing her favorite sayings: "Life is short," "Different strokes for different folks," and "You can't take it with you when you die." Her quiet strength and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Gwen was predeceased by her parents, her husband, James A. Collins, and her stepson, Tony A. Collins.
She is survived by a large and loving family, including her children: Phuong (Chim) T. Nguyen of Virginia Beach, Linh (Chut) T. Nguyen of Raeford, NC, James (JC) A. Collins II of Virginia Beach, and Minh T. Basley of Columbia, SC. She is also survived by her stepchildren: Cirillo (Leon) M. Collins of San Antonio, TX, Veronica (VC) R. Wilkins of Virginia Beach, and Dawn D. Gunn of Chesapeake. Her legacy continues through her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation, service, and reception will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, starting at 4:00 p.m. (visitation), 5:00 p.m. (service), reception will commence immediately following service at Hollomon-Brown, Princess Anne Chapel, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor of Nguyen H. Collins to the Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad (www.helpplaza.org).
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the staff of Westminster Canterbury at Home LLC, Ruth's Care LLC, and Magnolia Manor for their compassionate and attentive hospice care during Gwen's final days.
