Teodoro J. Vergonio

Teodoro J. Vergonio, 86, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 28, 2025 in Virginia Beach, VA.

Teodoro, known to his friends as Ted, was born on October 28, 1938 in Nueva Viscaya, Philippines, the son of Maria B. (Jaramillo) and Francisco Vergonio. After graduating from Far Eastern University with a pre-med degree, he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1962. Two years later, Ted married Francisca, his beloved wife, and soon after they emigrated to the United States. He proudly served 23 years in the US Navy before retiring in 1984. He then followed up his naval career serving an additional 20 years of Civil Service working at Naval Air Station Oceana.

Following retirement from Civil Service, Ted enjoyed many things including travelling the world with Francisca, daily walks at the mall with his friends, attending church services, spending quality time with family and friends, and his passion for gardening was unsurpassed. He took great joy in sharing his abundant harvests with family and friends, especially the persimmons from his backyard orchard.

He was predeceased by his parents, Francisco and Maria, his wife of 53 years, Francisca, and six brothers and a sister. Ted is survived and adored by his son, James Vergonio, and three daughters (and their spouses), Mary Ann DuRant (Edward), Merlinda Vergonio (Michael), and Maricel Villanueva (Lejandro). He will be forever cherished and remembered as Papa by his three grandchildren Skylar, Isabella, and Nathaniel. Ted also leaves behind two younger brothers, Enrique and Jerry, and several nephews and nieces who will sadly miss his warmth and generosity. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by him. While we are sad for his passing, we are grateful for his strong faith, his humility, grace and dedication to living the life that his Lord God called him to live.

Visitation will be held at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 3445 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2025, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1396 Lynnhaven Parkway, Virginia Beach. We invite all who knew him to join us in remembering, honoring and celebrating a truly remarkable man.
