Nguyen Thi Thu Hong, age 90, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 13, 1934 in Can Tho, Vietnam, she was the daughter of the late Nguyen Van Dai and Nguyen Thi Guong.
Thu Hong completed her education at Caritas and worked as an accomplished nurse at the Grand Hospital in Saigon. She later met the she met the love of her life, Bui Hop and together, they built a life filled with love and raised five children. Family weekends were often spent along the coast in Vung Tau, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
A devout Buddhist, Thu Hong gave tirelessly to her community, especially at local temples where she prepared delicious vegan dishes and shared teachings of Buddha. She deeply instilled these values in her children and grandchildren, guiding them through her own unwavering faith. Known for her radiating spirit, Thu Hong brought light and warmth wherever she went, embracing life with grace and joy. She was a gifted storyteller, a fashion enthusiast, and an avid gardener. Her time at Kit Clark Senior Services was filled with friendships that bridged cultures, as she introduced others to Vietnamese traditions through her homemade egg rolls and Tet celebrations.
Thu Hong's greatest joy was her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride, and her love for them knew no bounds. She will always be remembered for her vibrant smile, her joyful spirit, and infectious personality.
Thu Hong is survived by her children, Bui Hong Hu Bui Hi u, Bui Hong Hoa and Bui Hong Hao; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Nguyen Van Dai and Nguyen Thi Guong, her beloved husband Bui Hop, sister Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy and son Bui Hung.
The funeral service for Thu Hong will be held at McHoul Family Funeral Home, 354 Adams Street, Dorchester, Massachusetts, on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, and Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 8:00am to 11:00am. A cremation witness at Forest Hills Crematory, 171 Walk Hill Street, Boston, Massachusetts, will be followed by the service.
