Nicholas D. Larson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Even before he joined the Marines, Nicholas Larson liked to walk around in fatigues. He was so eager to join that he enlisted before he graduated from high school last year. "He was doing what he wanted to do. He was a Marine _ and a good one," said his grandfather Patrick O''Sullivan, a World War II veteran. Larson, 19, of Wheaton, Ill., was killed by hostile fire Nov. 9 around Fallujah during the offensive against insurgents. He was based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. Teachers remembered Larson as a dedicated, intense student who was respectful in class. He felt confident as he headed off to Iraq that he was doing the right thing. "He was afraid, but he was ready to go," said his former teacher, Lisa Doherty. He is survived by his parents. "The best we can do for Nick is pray for him and pray for his buddies that they get out safe," his grandfather said.

My husband called you Sven. It's like you live here with us everyday. He misses you so very much. I wanted to thank you for being you. I wish I could've met you and thanked you in person but one day I will have my chance. I'm glad you are in our family like you are. You read all the time like I do. We named our son Patton and I hope you would have liked it since you loved tank warfare. I wanted to name him for you but my husband said it was too painful. They are both so good and I am so blessed and I believe you would be proud. I know a very big part of who he is today is all because of you. I can't thank you enough. For what you did for me as a US citizen. By being kind to my husband when others were not. By implanting in him the best of you. God bless and keep you always.

I just wanted to say that you are being thought of on this Memorial Day weekend. You are a true American Hero.
If I could have one wish, it would be that every American would stop whatever they are doing for a minute or two and say a little prayer for our Military.
HEROES NEVER DIE. THEY LIVE IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Nicholas, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Nick and I at Camp Freeland Leslie - Oxford, Wisconsin - ~1995

This message is to the family of Lance Cpl. Nicholas D. Larson:

I have never met you, but I knew Nick growing up. We were in Boy Scouts and I met him at Summer Camp one summer. We became friends rather quickly, and we would hang out whenever we could, just telling stories/jokes/etc. Nick was a very nice and friendly person, we always welcomed him and enjoyed being with him. We kept in touch over the years on and off, but I lost touch with Nick after I left for college, but I knew he had joined the Marines. From the day I met him, it was something he had wanted to do. When I found out that Nick had given his life fighting for our country, I was stunned. Everything I read on Nick and his life as a Marine was the same Nick I had remembered. I always smile when I think of those memories at CFL in Wisconsin. Nick is someone I admire and will always respect and remember. As a high school Social Studies teacher I always think of Nick when talking about sacrifice and fighting for our country. He was a great human being, and I miss him. I wanted you to know, as I am sure you have heard plenty of times and know yourselves, Nick was a great person.

May your family take comfort in knowing that Nick led a great life and that he will always be remembered,

Patrick Sheridan

Dear family of Lance Cpl. Nicholas D. Larson,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

Frank G. Noyes

I read of Nicholas' brave sacrifice in We Were One: Shoulder To Shoulder With The Marines Who Took Fallujah[O'Donnell, 2006] While I did not know him, I am deeply impressed by the honor and courage he displayed through his service and his ultimate dedication to his brother Marines. Please accept my respects and profound gratitude.
Thank you, Nicholas.

Nick,

I miss you and think about you often. The hours we'd spend on the phone, the wonderful moments we shared, the sound of your voice, I miss it dearly. Your laugh, your kind heart, I loved you then and I love you now. I was so eager to run into your arms when you got back from Iraq and then finding out that you wouldn't be coming home to me broke my heart. I, still, to this day cry about losing you. I'll be out of the Marine Corps soon, seen so much, Iraq was an experiance i'll never forget. I want to thank you for always believing in me. You're my hero Nick, and will be forever.

I love you

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

You are missed Nick RIP...

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!
