On May 2nd, 2025 Nicholas William Geragotelis, 21, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Nashville, TN while attending Belmont University. Nicholas was born in Boston, MA on January 9th, 2004, and raised in Sharon, MA. From a young age he had a passion for music. His ability to hear a song one time then replay it on a keyboard, without any formal training, was amazing. As a child, he would often break out into song and fill the house with beautiful music. His creativity branched out into making Lego stop action movies and writing Star Wars and Marvel comics. He also loved hiking in Borderland State Park where he would create new trails and lead us on adventures, all the while narrating the journey as if he were an explorer. As a teenager, he concentrated on playing guitar, both electric and acoustic. He was in a band while at high school and often helped set up and run the sound equipment at events as a member of Radio Club.
His passion for music led him to Belmont University in Nashville, where he majored in Audio Engineering Technology and minored in Physics. He was an excellent student and maintained a 3.8 GPA. He especially enjoyed the mixing and production of music. He loved the Tennessee climate, freedoms and lifestyle, and knew he wanted to stay in Tennessee after graduation. His studies included history and theology and he enjoyed discussing all topics to broaden his knowledge. He had campus jobs at the School of Music and R.E.M. Studios and he worked on the nationally televised production of Christmas at Belmont. He loved hiking in Cumberland Mountain State Park or just sitting on the back deck playing guitar.
Nicholas had just completed his Junior year at Belmont at the time of his passing. He is survived by his parents Paul and Kelly Geragotelis of Crossville and his older brother Alexander of Williamsburg, VA as well as countless family and friends who love him and miss him greatly. We will forever miss his beautiful smile and kind soul. Go rest high on that mountain son, your work on earth is done.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday May 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Hood Funeral Home in Crossville, TN. 2371 US-127 Crossville, TN 38572 In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Nicholas's memory to childrensalopeciaproject.org
A memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church, 70 Central Avenue, Norwich, CT 06360 on Saturday August 16 at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow.

I am deeply saddened to learn of this tragic news of Nicholas´ untimely passing. Nicholas was a very private, reserved young man, at least in the context in which I knew him. It sounds like he thrived in the areas of creativity which he found meaningful. He was pursuing his passions. I regret that I didn´t have a chance to see this aspect of him. May his memory always be a blessing, and may his family find strength and comfort within their community.

To the Geragotelis family,
My heart breaks to hear this sad news. I had the privilege of teaching Nick in AP Literature at SHS. I remember his kindness, his incredibly work ethic, and the pride he felt as he took on the role of Radio Club captain, when he stepped in to reignite the club during Covid with his unwavering positivity and energy. He was proud of his leadership, and the entire SHS community benefitted from his actions. Please accept my deepest condolences. My thoughts - and the thoughts of so many from the SHS community- are with you during this unimaginably difficult and sad time.
With sympathy,

Nicholas truly was a great friend. I got to know him freshman year, and we've been good buddies since. We were roommates for our sophomore and junior years, and even planned to be roommates for this coming senior year. I enjoyed having conversations and was really impressed with his musical knowledge. He was an expert in his craft. He was also kind, respectful, and funny. I now appreciate the moments when he would invite me over to hike, go for groceries, or even try a explore a place in 12 South.

I will miss him.
He truly was a good friend.

We should never have to lose those we love. He will be very missed. -Melanie Funk

It was a pleasure to have Nicholas in my Calculus II course at Belmont in spring 2024. His strong work ethic, positive attitude, and leadership among his peers were truly blessings to our class. I am thankful for his strong contributions and impact at Belmont during his time here, and I wish his family comfort and peace in the days ahead.

Nick was my partner for Bible class, where we read Confessions of St. Augustine. He was so intelligent and shared his religious beliefs and stands with me. I am happy to have known a piece of the amazing person he was. I will always think of him when I pick up that book. May God rest his soul. My condolences to his family. May God give you all consolation and strength.

I worked with Nicholas at REM, he was always outsmarting me without even trying. He was someone I knew lived for music, being around it, surrounded in the sound. He was sweet and REM will be a little dimmer without him there.

Sending prayers and peace for the family and friends who were honored enough to know him.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. As a Belmont staff member, I did not have the pleasure of meeting Nicholas, but he clearly contributed so much to those around him. Cumberland Mountain is my family's favorite TN State Park and we have hiked more than half of them. I will think of him when we visit.

While I didn't know Nicholas well, I have nothing but fond memories of him. I often saw him at University Catholic events, and was always impressed by his ability to be fully present and interested. Whether it was a deep discussion or casual chatter, he had a stellar capability to listen and soak up every detail of the conversation. His spirit and impact will live on in our community, and he will be sincerely missed.

As a physics faculty member at Belmont, I had the pleasure of teaching Nicholas in two courses during the Fall 2023 and Fall 2024 semesters. He was among the top-performing students in both classes-always prepared, consistently engaged, and never hesitant to ask thoughtful, challenging questions. His genuine curiosity about the material-from Newtonian mechanics to acoustics-brought depth to our discussions, and I truly appreciated the thoughtfulness he contributed to the classroom. Simply put, Nicholas made our classes better by being part of them.

Outside of class, I admired his humor and his passion for his work on campus, whether in live shows or recording projects at Belmont.

I cannot begin to imagine the grief felt by those who knew and loved Nicholas. I pray God's peace is ever present during this incredibly difficult time.

With deepest sympathy,
Matt Zeh (Dr. Zeh)
