Nicholas Seifert Obituary

Visit the Girrbach Funeral Home - Hastings website to view the full obituary.

Nicholas James Seifert, a man of strength, integrity and generosity went courageously into the arms of the Lord on February 15, 2026. Nick fought a 6 year battle with cancer - never once giving up or allowing self-pity. Nick was the rock of his family and will be extremely missed by his wife, of 35 years, Karen (Long) Seifert, son Nathan James Seifert, and daughter Kelsea Elizabeth (Thomas Gillen) Seifert-Gillen. He will also be missed by his brother Mike (Amy) Seifert, in-laws John and Gerrie Long, brother-in-law Michael (Diane) Long, sister-in-law Lisa (Lee Ossenheimer) Long, many special nieces, nephews, other family members and dear friends.

Nicholas James Seifert was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Harold James and Nancy Claire (Petersen) Seifert on December 15, 1964. He was the oldest of three sons. Nick is preceded in death by both his parents and younger brother Scott. May they be wrapping their arms around him now.

Nick was devoted to his family. He loved to cook. He loved to travel especially with family and friends. Family camping trips were cherished times. Nick enjoyed hunting, golfing, playing poker and country music.

Nicholas was a man of service. He served in the Army National Guard for 8 years. He was also a Barry County Deputy Sheriff for more than 25 years, spending 6 years as a sergeant, firearms instructor, and Dive Team member. He worked a hard job and sacrificed time with family, but he enjoyed helping others.

Nick will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Rest in peace dear man. You have inspired many with your strength. Thank you to the many friends and family who supported Nick through thoughts and prayers. He greatly appreciated it. A big thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff especially Dr. Chandana at Lemmon Holton for their care. In the end he didn't pass from cancer - so he beat it! Thank you for giving us extra time.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM at Girrbach Funeral Home 328 South Broadway Street, Hastings, Michigan 49058. Funeral Mass, Monday, February 23, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church 805 South Jefferson Street, Hastings, Michigan 49058.
