Nicholas J. Trakas, of Westwood, MA fell asleep in the Lord on the 21st day of June. Beloved husband of Barbara Trakas for 33 years. Loving father of John and Elizabeth, her husband Brandon and son of the late John and Anne Trakas. Survived by his brother Christopher Trakas, his sister Jennifer Acerra-Trakas, and her husband Stephen. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
A servant of God and a lover of nature, he had a wide range of knowledge. Everything from business and finance to car repair and the best time to plant grass. He was an easy friend to everyone he met.
If it was a trinket or a gadget, he knew all the tips and tricks. Hard work came easy for him. Nick built his business from hard work and perseverance. He loved everything grown from the ground, flying in the air, or walking in the woods. Second only to his family, his next greatest love was the ocean and water. Everything from pool filters to rip currents, algae to dunes. His perfect day was laying on the beach surrounded by his wife and children and then a dramatic dunk in the sea. Nick loved geography and the natural world. Sandbars, barrier islands, mountains, and trails were what animated him. He was the premier expert on blueberries: where to find them, how to harvest them and how to enjoy them. He cut his own path, inspiring all who knew him to follow in his footsteps.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend, on Tuesday, the 27th day of June, a Visitation at 9 AM and the Funeral Service following at 10 AM at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 57 Brown Street, Weston. The interment will be at the Milton Cemetery located at 211 Centre St., Milton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nicholas’ memory to The New Life Furniture Bank of Massachusetts. Checks can be made out to: New Life Furniture Bank of MA PO Box 573, Medfield, MA 02052 or electronically at newlifefb.org.
