Anne Marie Berkland of Westwood died peacefully at her home on August 28th. Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Kenneth Berkland; her parents Anna and Frank Coughlin; and her brother Jack Coughlin.
Born and raised in Norwood, Anne graduated from Norwood High School and Emmanuel College. Anne taught in the Norfolk public school system until leaving to raise her family. She and Ken lived in the Wethersfield neighborhood of Natick for several years, making friendships there that would last a lifetime. They moved to Westwood in the 1960’s, where they raised their family and lived for the rest of their lives.
In addition to following her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, Anne was an active part of her community. She taught CCD, was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Newcomers Club, and the League of Women Voters. For many years she was a driving force behind the Glad Rags Thrift Shop which provided generous contributions to the MSPCC. In her final years, Anne was a part of the Westwood Women’s Club.
Above all, Anne was devoted to her family. Her love and support of her husband and children was unconditional and enduring. Her grandchildren were a profound source of pride and happiness, and her great-grandchildren, of immense joy.
Anne is survived by her son Kenneth (wife Lisa); daughter Kathleen O’Kane (husband Brian); and daughter Kristine Boyles (husband Eugene). She also leaves 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
