Folsom Funeral Service – Westwood ChapelShirley Eleanor (Carroll) Munroe, a longtime resident of Westwood, died Thursday, August 14, 2025 at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood. She was 92. Shirley was born August 6, 1933, in New Bedford, the daughter of Donald John and Laura (Pichard) Carroll. Shirley attended Westwood High School but graduated from Oliver Ames High School in Easton, Massachusetts. While at Westwood High she played basketball in the girls team's first ever undefeated season (1949). She worked at Youlden's Craft Store in Westwood for many years, cutting ribbons and assisting customers find the right supplies for their craft projects. Shirley was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Westwood teaching an adult women's bible study class and teaching Sunday School. She volunteered at the Glover Hospital in Needham and occasionally at Glad Rags in Westwood, and at The Open Table in Norwood. Shirley was the wife of the late Herbert Chester Munroe Jr. who predeceased her in 2014 and the mother of Donald K. Munroe, and his wife Patty, of Marlborough, New Hampshire, Douglas A. Munroe, and his wife Leslie, of Norwood, Pamela S. Spencer, and her husband John, of Plymouth, Jeanne M. Roderick, and her husband Walter, of McCaysville, Georgia, and Marjorie Davin, and her husband Thomas, of Kennsington, Maryland; as well as 17 grandchildren, and an ever increasing number of great grandchildren. Shirley was the twin sister of the late Lorraine Louise Ross. Visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the Folsom Funeral Home, 649 High Street, Westwood followed by a Memorial Service in the funeral Home at 11 o clock. Interment will be private.
