Nicolas Boyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmon Windsor Funeral Home on Mar. 4, 2026.
Nicolas Boyer, affectionately known as "Papi Niko" and "Nick" passed away peacefully at the age of 95. He was born on January 10, 1931, in Aux Cayes, Haiti. Nicolas lived a life marked by devotion to his family, dedication to hard work, and unwavering service to his community.

For nearly 70 years, Nicolas was the devoted husband of Marie Françoise Boyer. Their enduring marriage was a testament to love, faith, and commitment. Together they raised their children, Carmelle Milard, Bernie (Bob) Boyer, Reine C. Boyer, instilling in them the values of perseverance, kindness, integrity, and service.

In Haiti, Nicolas operated a bus company that connected towns and communities. Determined to provide for his family, he later worked in French Guiana before immigrating to the United States in 1967, where he reunited with his beloved wife, Marie, who had arrived a year earlier.

After settling in Hartford, Connecticut, Nicolas worked at Colt Firearms, Saint Francis Hospital, and Connecticut Transit. He especially enjoyed serving patients at the hospital and as a bus operator, he loved interacting with passengers along his Connecticut Transit bus routes. His warm spirit and welcoming personality left an indelible mark and lasting impression on all who met him.

Nicolas was a pillar in the Haitian community within the greater Hartford area. He was always ready to offer guidance, lend a helping hand, provide a ride, or simply listen. His wisdom extended beyond his immediate family to friends, neighbors, and community members alike. He was a proud grandfather to Natasha, Alexandra, Bobby, Jonathan, Sarah, Allain, Andrew, Aaron, Chrishna, and Imani. Nicolas found immense joy in his great-grandchildren, Bryson, Alexander, and Maxwell. He also found great joy in staying in touch with, providing counseling and advice to countless nieces and nephews. Even at 95, Nicolas generously provided encouragement to young and old alike who sought his sage wisdom.

He is preceded in death by his mother Reine Cleane Dorval, his father, Nerva Boyer, and his 10 siblings: Joseph, Marsan, Herta, Gerard, Franchette, Charles, Marie, Anne Marie, Rose, Jean.

Nicolas will be remembered as a leader in the Haitian-American community of Hartford, his dedication to the St. Justin-St. Michael Catholic Parish, and his unwavering and ongoing support for his family back in Haiti.

He will be remembered as a dutiful husband, loving father, devoted grandfather/great grandfather, and loyal friend to all. He also was an avid music lover, collecting several albums of Haitian and American music. His distinct laughter and generous heart will be missed beyond measure. His laugh will always echo in our hearts. His legacy of love, strength, and service will live on for generations to come.

His family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 10, 10-11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m., at St. Justin-St. Michael Parish, 230 Blue Hills Ave., Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
