Nicolas Gauvin Obituary

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Nicolas often fondly recalled his formative years there, where he built many of his strongest and most enduring friendships.
Nicolas was a kind, intelligent, and loving family man whose quiet strength and generous spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was a devoted husband to Lorraine Gauvin for 26 years and a deeply caring father to Lydia and Sebastien. His presence will be profoundly missed by his family, his friends near and far, his colleagues, and his favorite cat, Loki.
Nicolas found joy in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest – especially time spent on or near the water. Whether teaching Lydia and Sebastien how to ski, bike, or wake surf, or patiently guiding them through their math studies, Nicolas was always present with calm encouragement and unwavering support. He was also always up for the adventures his wife planned, bringing a quiet enthusiasm to each new experience.
Professionally, Nicolas was deeply proud of his work as a software engineer in the gaming industry, with meaningful contributions made during his time at Microsoft, Oculus, and Valve. His creativity and dedication were a source of pride and joy throughout his career.
A private memorial service will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations in Nicolas Gauvin's memory be made to the Association for Autism and Neurodiversity (AANE).
While our hearts are heavy with grief, we hold tightly to the love and memories we shared with Nicolas. May he rest in peace.

I worked with Nicolas on four different teams at MS, as both reporting to him and as a peer. He was always passionate and excited about the work he did, usually with a big smile. We also spent a lot of time talking about his passion for various new hobbies such as kite surfing. I'm shocked and saddened to hear he is gone. My condolences to the family.
