Niko passed unexpectedly from an illness on November 3rd (time of 20:29) at UNM Hospital. He was born November 12, 1994, in Albuquerque. He’s the son of Dwayne and Jerolean (John) Weston.
Niko graduated from Rio Rancho High School, Class of 2013. Following graduation, he traveled throughout the U.S. He visited many states with his grandparents and occasionally invited his parents along for fun. He considered himself a professional of many careers, including telecommuter, gambler, and sports coach. You would catch him many times with his office set up, iPad out with keyboard and mouse, pretending to talk to customers on the phone. He would yell to Mom to print out more papers for his many clients. He enjoyed going to the casino and somehow coming out as a winner almost every time. He would coach his parents in softball and, in his younger years, coach Dad in basketball. He was an avid fisherman, with the fish growing each time the story was told about the catch.
Niko had a great smile; he had such a big presence. He had a great, outgoing, social personality. He went out of his way to talk to anyone who was nearby. He wanted to make everyone feel welcome and just say hi to make someone feel seen. He had a wide network of friends he met during the many outings. He loved to wear Puma (meow) shirts and Chucks (Converse). He will be remembered for his shining smile and laughter. He will always be cherished by his parents, grandparents, aunts, and extended family.
Niko is survived by his loving parents, Dwayne and Jerolean; grandparents in Aztec, NM — James and Majel John; Remus and Esther Weston; Esther Greyeyes (Farmington, NM); and Darlene Tso (Flora Vista, NM); aunts — Javiera John (Aurora, CO) and Raynita Weston (Aztec, NM); and uncle — Zachary Tso (Albuquerque, NM). He is mourned by numerous extended family members, cousins, uncles, aunts, and friends.
