Nina Boykin, wife of Buddy Boykin, walked into the arms of Jesus on Friday, April 18, 2025.
She was born on July 13, 1936, to the late Joe and Mary Lee Johnson. Nina and Buddy celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on April 7th. They were blessed with one daughter, Kim, and her husband George Bogie, whom she affectionately referred to as her favorite son-in-law. The light and joy of her life were her granddaughters Brittany Perkins and Ashley Cornett, along with her great grandsons Ryan and Theo Cornett. She was preceded in death by her brother Bill Johnson.
Nina was a devoted member of Silver Creek Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she lovingly rocked many babies and enjoyed working in the nursery. She also recently attended Emmanuel Baptist Church. Throughout her life, she shared many loaves of warm homemade sourdough bread with friends, and she and Buddy enjoyed growing a large garden, often sharing the biggest and best tomatoes, which were sometimes gathered by wheelbarrow. Nina took pleasure in sending cards and visiting friends in hospitals and nursing homes. Nina retired from Berea National Bank after many years and was a passionate UK Basketball fan.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Berea Cemetery Pavilion on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 11 am, with Evan Eckler and Kenny Davis officiating. The family will be accepting friends from 10 am until time of services at the cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Terrill, Rick Terrill, Ronnie Terrill Jr., Billy Linville, John Portwood, and George Bogie.
Nina has requested no flowers, but the family welcomes donations to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Berea or the Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.
Many thanks to all the medical professionals who provided wonderful care, including Dr. Donny Hardy and staff, Christin Cook, Mona Mowbray, Kristyn Kelly, Dr. Hossam Jabbour, Dr. Michael Shih, the staff of Baptist Health, and the staff of the Compassionate Care Center.
Condolences for the family may be left at www.lakesfuneralhome.com
