Nina Morrill Edgmand, 80, passed away peacefully in her Taylorsville Home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, Jan 12, 2025. Though her passing was quite sudden, and unexpected, she has left an imprint on many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Nina was born Jun 11, 1944, in Richfield, Utah, to Luther Cloyd Morrill and Bernice Hinton Morrill. She married Dale Leslie Edgmand on Aug 25, 1972, in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple. Their union was a testament to faith and devotion, forming a foundation for a family rooted in love and compassion.
Nina was born into a humble family of loving parents, three older brothers and three older sisters at the time, in Kingston, Utah. Trials came early to the family having experienced the burning of their home one year prior to Nina's birth, and the death of a baby girl-twin to Myrna. Despite experiencing these trials, Nina's childhood was filled with many happy memories of her siblings, along with cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents supporting each other, instilling a determination in Nina that would stand out her entire life. She learned the value of hard work, dedication, and never giving up. She leaves behind a strong legacy of love, compassion toward others, trust in one's family and faith in her Heavenly Father. Nina often spoke of her gratitude for her family and the life experiences she had, as each one greatly enriched her life. Among those experiences, Nina grew to love being involved in her community through school, church, clubs, etc. From an early age, Nina enjoyed learning, being of service to others, and getting involved in as many ways possible. She was blessed with many wonderful teachers along the way that instilled a desire to teach, inspire, and support others through education. Nina began with serving an LDS mission to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she built her testimony and shared it with the beautiful people of the area. She often spoke of the vibrant, loving people of Buenos Aires, and maintained contact with several fellow missionaries and people she had taught while serving there
Soon after returning from her mission, Nina graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Education and Office Management. Right away, she started her teaching career at the Utah Technical College at Salt Lake. After getting married and starting a family Nina felt the urge to teach again and filled that desire by joining the faculty at what would become the Salt Lake Community College, where she taught for over 30 years. While being a full-time professor, Nina was continuously involved in serving others through joining committees, or leading departments at SLCC and through serving the LDS church through various callings to Stake/Ward Primary and Relief Society Presidencies, as well as teaching Sunday School, Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society, and serving as a Visiting Teacher for many years. After retiring, Nina enjoyed teaching the Sunbeam class in Primary for several years before she and Dale served a couples' mission to the LDS Employment Resource Services Center in West Jordan, Utah. She and Dale met so many wonderful people there and made dear friends Nina was grateful to have met. Another service Nina enjoyed was sharing her talent at playing the piano and the organ whenever possible, by accompanying services at the Ward chapel and by playing in the chapel at the Jordan River Temple. She enjoyed every chance she got to serve others in this way or in any way. Those who knew Nina were touched by her unwavering faith, dedication, and unconditional love.
Nina is survived by her daughters, Melanie Kae, and Marissa (Dusty) Kenner of Taylorsville, UT; Brother, Denis (Michael) Morrill of Taylorsville, UT; Brother-in-law, Dick Baumann of Provo, UT; Sister, Veneta Young of Ely, NV; and Layne (Liz) Morrill of Paradise, AZ. Many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends will miss Nina, as will many "adopted" nieces, nephews, and grandchildren shared with her by friends.
Preceding Nina in death, and welcoming her home, is her sweetheart and husband of 52 years, Dale Leslie Edgmand; daughter, Monica Lyn Edgmand; parents, Luther Cloyd Morrill and Bernice Hinton Morrill; siblings, Terry (Erlynn) Morrill; Marilyn Stone; Clark (Arleen) Morrill; and Myrna (Dick) Baumann.
