Nita Leora Erb

Kalona- Nita Leora Erb was born January 28, 1925, in Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Ora R. and Gertrude M. (Yoder) Brenneman. She attended Woodland School. Nita was united in marriage to John S. Erb on October 19, 1944, at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. Nita was a homemaker and helped John on the farm. Nita and John made a life on their farm for over 40 years before moving to Kalona in 1988. Nita was a member of Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, where she was active in WMSC, and taught numerous Sunday school classes. She spent many hours volunteering at Pleasantview Home in Kalona. She enjoyed watching birds and tending to her flowers, gardening, cooking, quilting, restoring old furniture and spending time with her family. Nita passed away January 25, 2025, at Pleasanview Home in Kalona at the age of 99 years old.

She is survived by two children; Gary (Sylvia) Erb of Wellman and Terry (Deb) Erb of Wellman; five grandchildren, Charletta Erb (Seth Oster), Veronica (Justin) Schweitzer, Stuart Erb, Lindsay (Jason) Widmer and Aaron (Michelle) Erb; seven great grandchildren, Jackson, Joey, Abe, Emma, Owen, Ezana and Lennon; three sisters-in-law, Faye Brenneman, Dee Erb and Joann Huneryager, a brother-in-law Ben Kenagy and daughter-in-law Linda Erb. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, a son Robert, Sister Audrey (Wayne) Miller and two brothers, Lowell (Lucille) Brenneman and Clair Brenneman.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00pm Thursday January 30, 2025, at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite church, burial will be at 2:00 pm prior to the service at Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00pm Wednesday January 29, 2025, at Yoder Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. The service will be livestreamed at https://youtube.com/live/uR66oomys9s?feature=share.
