Edward “Ed” J. Whitmire, 86 of Kalona, died Friday, November 7, 2025, at his home.
Funeral Services have been set for 10:30 AM, Friday, November 14, 2025, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 4-6:00 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home. A memorial in the name of Ed Whitmire has been established for the AM Vets in Richmond.
Ed was born February 8, 1939, in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Rudolph and Betty (Pitt) Whitmire. He graduated from Kalona High School in 1957 and from the University of Iowa with a degree in accounting.
He served in the US Navy from 1964 - 1967, on the USS Coral Sea. Following his service, he was an accountant for several oil companies in CA throughout his working career. In 2003, he returned to Kalona. He enjoyed helping the AM Vets in Richmond, sports, and was an avid Dodgers baseball fan.
Survivors include his nephew Jason (Julie) Gingerich of Kalona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Betty Gingerich, and nephew Jeffrey Gingerich.
