William “Bill” L. Rath of Riverside passed from this life on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Atrium Village in Hills. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at the Riverside VFW at a later date. Memorial donations in Bill’s memory may be directed to the Riverside VFW. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.
William Lee Rath was born on October 7, 1949, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Oral and Ethel (Ginkens) Rath. He graduated from Highland High School and served in during the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1970. He worked as a plumber at the Veterans Administration for 27 years. He was a lifetime member of the Riverside VFW Post 6414, where he served as commander for 15 years. He was also a member of the Iowa City Fraternal Order of Eagles #695 and Richmond Am Vets Post 107.
Survivors include his sister Linda Rath, and three stepchildren: Janet (Steve) MacPherson, Donna (Wayne) Barnes, and Barry (Donna) Evans.
