Nita Cile McAnelly of Hondo passed away in Kerrville Sunday, June 1, 2025. She was 65. The only daughter of John Ernest McAnelly, Sr., and Virginia Elizabeth Underwood McAnelly, she was born June 24, 1959, in Castroville. Nita was a member of the first class for handicapped children operated by Medina County Association for Retarded Children, later renamed Exceptional Children (MCAEC). Still later, the class became a part of the Hondo ISD Special Education program. She also attended Roosevelt High School Special Education Classes and graduated in 1981. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Gladden C. and Hallie Nixon McAnelly and Wyatt R. and Mary Elizabeth (Buie) Underwood; and sister-in-law, Susan McAnelly. She is survived by her brothers, John E. McAnelly, Jr., (Evelyn), Phillip A. McAnelly (Linda) and Gene C. McAnelly (Lori), and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A private graveside service will be at Hondo Cemetery, Oakwood Section, and a celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church of Hondo at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Hondo ISD Special Ed program or a charity of your choice.
