Nita Pearl (Duke) Stubblefield died peacefully at her home in Abilene, Texas, on Oct. 16, 2025.
She was born in Ballinger, Texas, to Walter Sims Duke and Lois (Pape) Duke on Oct. 16, 1939.
Nita attended Ballinger schools and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Tech University. She was a dedicated teacher who taught in elementary schools in both Lubbock and San Angelo. She also was a talented musician, excelling in vocal music and piano. Nita will be remembered for her kind and friendly personality and her love of animals, especially horses.
Nita was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, David Sims Duke; and an infant daughter.
She is survived by her husband, Charles David Stubblefield, of Abilene; her sister, Wilma Lois Duke; and her brother, John Walter Duke (Betty), all of San Angelo. She also is survived by her niece Diane Williams (Charles); and nephews Douglas Duke (David Pollard), David Duke (Paula), and Tony Duke (Candace).
