Noel Augustus Von Glahn MD

Noel Augustus von Glahn, MD, age 85, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. He was a resident for the last seven years of Well Spring Seniors Community in Greensboro, NC and was formerly a resident of Novi, Michigan. He was born July 5, 1937 in Marion County, Ludington, Michigan the son of the late Gustav von Glahn and Emma Bertha Knoll von Glahn. In addition to his parents, he is also reunited in death with his three sisters, Carol von Glahn, Lorraine Jacobs, and Catherine Johnson; and a granddaughter, Erica Ann McCarthy.
Noel was a well-known ophthalmologist for 43 years in Livonia, Michigan. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School in 1962, Dr. Noel von Glahn Served as Chief of Staff elect in 1987. Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Von Glahn served his internship at Wayne County General Hospital and his residency at Detroit General Hospital. He joined the St. Mary staff in 1967, specializing in ophthalmology. Dr. von Glahn has previously served as secretary and treasurer of the St. Mary Hospital Medical Staff, chairman of Continuing Medical Education Committee and has contributed to the St. Mary Hospital Medical Staff continuing Medical Education Accreditation. His office was located on Six Mile in Livonia, Michigan.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Middleton von Glahn; son, John Earl McCarthy; daughter, Jill Louise McCarthy Mitchell; four grandchildren, Michael John McCarthy, Cole Hunter Mitchell, Madison Elizabeth Mitchell, one great grandchild, Mason John McCarthy; and numerous nieces, nephews and other beloved family and friends.
Noel was so proud of family and supported them throughout their college careers, hobbies, and interests. He will be remembered for being a good and loving man with the best sense of humor and hundreds of stories. He was a member of Centenary Methodist Church in Greensboro, NC. This man was a total car guy and passed his 1967 Dodge Coronet with 426 engine to his beloved son, John.
A memorial service to honor his life will be announced.
