Joan Von Glahn Obituary
Joan Von Glahn of Cranston, Rhode Island died on December 21, 2023, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Her service and burial will be private.
"Though Joan did not want a formal obituary, as a lifelong New Yorker in her heart, she did want to express the following sentiment: Born in Brooklyn; died in Cranston. Who would have thought it!"

Joan was my second mother. She was my mother's best friend and was part of our family from the beginning. She was an indefatigable fighter for social causes, and that spirit was also felt in her devotion to my welfare as a child. A great sense of humor and a lover of the arts, and her precious butter-yellow Karmann Ghia. Later in life she was also an excellent artist in her own right. Her care for me, deep and abiding, will be remembered with gratitude for all my days.

I tracked down Joan a few years ago and I was able to thank her for inspiring me, as my 4th grade teacher at Sherman Elementary School in Warwick. She pushed me, challenged me, and believed in me, and I´ve been incredibly grateful all of these years. May she rest in peace, knowing she did so much for me!
Heartfully
