Holy Rosary will begin at 11:00 AM at the Fields Funeral Home. Visitation with family will begin at 10:30 AM until time of Holy Rosary.
Nola Jean Batiste Dauterive was born March 7, 1929, in Burks, Louisiana to the mother of Emma Jean Batiste, and the father Clement Jean Batiste. Nola was raised
most of her life in New Iberia and her home of 53 years in Hendersonville Subdivision. 53 years If only that house could talk, as she would say before she calls herself juicy, "between us and the gate posts". With only up to an 8th grade education, she had more knowledge about life than any school could have taught her, she was a natural math whiz, no calculator.
She was sweet as pie but sassy like a red dress (her favorite color). She had no "cut", and she would tell you about yourself in such a smooth manner. She would start by saying, "I say this to say that" you would not realize until later she threw shade. She was funny and to be blessed with 95 years she earned every right and respect to say or do whatever she wanted to just as with her passing, she wanted to leave this Earth peacefully in her sleep as she did.
Nola was fondly called "Nonnie." She was a beautiful soul and touched many lives. She loved her family unconditionally and was deeply loved in return. Her smile, laughter and witty personality was infectious. Whenever contacted or visited by friends and family, she was always involved in her favorite pastime, "Word Search Puzzles." She made sure to keep her mind sharp and could give an elephant a run for its money. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her favorite times were visitations by her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. We will always remember her baking "German Chocolate, Banana, Steen Syrup, and Million Dollar Pound Cakes.
Her quick wit, sharp mind made her a great storyteller about her childhood helping her parents and siblings in the fields with their crops to becoming a teenager, attending dances, fairs to meet the love of her life Frederick Dauterive. She said he would say, "uh no one can talk to you and if they do, I will fight them!" He asked her to wait for him as he left for WWII.
She created a beautiful family with seven children (six girls; one boy) and an amazing extension of five generations. Nola worked many years caring for the sick at Iberia General, as well as the old Dauterive Hospital located on Duperior Street, Belle Teche Nursing Home and Iberia South Manor. She cared for many as a private sitter, as well. That was her calling. Her name passed on based on her love for her former patients. She retired from her career of sitting with patients at the age of 75.
As a patient in the hospital, she was called Maw Maw by the nurses who cared for her. She made her presence known, even when recuperating in the hospital. She was a great conversationalist, which drew many to listen to her each day that she was a patient. When discharged to go home, she was met by the nursing staff for a grand
sendoff of love, hugs, goodbyes and well wishes. We want to acknowledge her lifelong friend, Ms. Dorothy Isaac, who has been in our lives, as long as we can remember. Thank you for being her friend!!! Your love and support have helped us to find moments of peace and comfort amidst our grief. Thank you, family, and friends, for honoring the memory of our beloved Ms. Nola, on this day. Nola leaves seven children to cherish her fond memories: six daughters: Mary Ann D. Nora, Earline D. Sayrie, Delores D. Brown, Doris D. Rose, Ollie D. Provost, and Ramona "Mona" Dauterive; and one son, Frederick "Popsey" Dauterive, Jr., fifteen grandchildren, thirty-four great
grandchildren, six great great grandchildren; your special nieces, Cynthia Jacquet, Linda Henry, and Mellany Teno; her life-long friend, Dorothy Issac; and her telephone buddy, Mary Ann Griffin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Dauterive, Sr., her parents, Clement and Emma Jean Batiste; her siblings; Regina Burnery,
Celena Williams, Alma Pierre, Hazel Batiste, Alena Decuir; and sons--in-law, Don Nora, Sr. and Russell Sayrie.
