Nola Wise Obituary

Mrs. Nola "Ruth" Street Wise

February 19, 2026

JONESBOROUGH - Mrs. Nola "Ruth" Street Wise, age 88, of Jonesborough, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Johnson City Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Wise was born in Washington County and was the daughter of the late James and Cleo Hensley Street. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, James D. Street, Ray Street, and Dean Street; and her sisters, Wanda Dykes and Lucille Ayers.

She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Jonesborough, where she faithfully served and volunteered in many areas throughout the years. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she found great joy in sharing the love and Word of God with others.

Ruth and her beloved husband, David, owed and operated Lavender's Market in historic Jonesborough for any years. Lavender's was more than a business - it was their life's work and a true labor of love. Together, they helped make Jonesborough feel like home not only for their family, but for countless friends, neighbors, and visitors. The store became a gathering place where stories were shared, laughter was abundant, and everyone who walked through the doors felt welcomed and valued. Ruth's warmth and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Her heart was always full - full of love, gratitude, and deep appreciation for others. She expressed that love through her home-cooked meals, handwritten notes and cards, thoughtful gestures, and her natural gift of caring for those around her. Her smile was infectious, her sense of humor ever-present, and she had a way of making everyone feel special and seen.

Above all, Ruth cherished her family. She especially adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

She leaves behind her devoted husband, David Wise, her partner in life and love for many years. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, community, and unwavering commitment to one another.

Survivors include her husband, David Wise; children, Karen Wise Bennett (Mike), Don Wise of Jonesborough, and Ron Wise of Gray; grandchildren, Brandon Wise (Chrissy), Jenny Toomey (Kaine), Aaron Bennett (Miranda), Haley Wise (Erick), and Nolyn Stover (Anthony); great-granddaughters, Mary and Sophie Ruth Wise, Adelyn and Maggie Toomey; sister, Amy Collins; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Her legacy lives on in the love she gave so freely, the faith she shared so boldly, and the community she helped nurture in Jonesborough.

Funeral Services for Ruth will be Sunday March 1, 2026 4:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Jonesborough, with ministers her nephews, Parker Street, David Street and Richard Wright officiating. The family will receive family and friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM prior to service.

Graveside will be held on Monday March 2, 2026 11:00 AM at Mountain Home National Cemetery, those going in procession please be at the funeral home by 10:30 AM.
