Nolan F. Jewell

December 29, 1924 – October 8, 2025

Nolan F. Jewell, 100, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home on October 8th, 2025. Born on December 29, 1924, in Louisville, to Walter H. Jewell and Florence I (Stucker) Jewell, Nolan lived a life marked by service, kindness and devotion to family and community.

A proud graduate of Ahrens Trade School in Louisville, Nolan served honorably in World War II as a Technician 4th Grade in the U.S. Army's 1302nd Engineer Regiment. Stationed in England, he provided logistical and technical support to the medical corps, caring for U.S. soldiers and prisoners with compassion and inventiveness. One contribution was his conversion of dental drills from foot power to electric power using parts from the motor pool greatly improving the efficiency of the dental team. After the war, Nolan dedicated 40 years to Southern Bell, installing and maintaining high-speed communication infrastructure throughout the Louisville area, retiring as a respected professional known for his troubleshooting expertise.

Nolan was a faithful member of Southeast Christian Church, where his warm spirit touched many. He loved researching family genealogy, tracing the Jewell lineage back generations, and discussing political history with family and friends. He was also a passionate supporter of both University of Louisville and University of Kentucky athletics. This rare dual allegiance was born from his childhood Kentucky roots and his pride in his children's alma mater. Known for his cheerful personality, Nolan's optimism and humor brightened the lives of all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jesse and Melvin Jewell; and his beloved wives, Kathleen (Radcliffe) Jewell and Betty (Hogue) Jewell. Nolan is survived by his children, John (Cathy) Jewell and Mark (Martha) Jewell, Renee (Patrick) Pierce, Jack (Brenda) Glasser, and Rich Glasser; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 14th, from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm, and the funeral service will be on Wednesday, October 15th, at 11:00 am at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. Interment will follow the service at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4400 Bardstown Road.

In honor of Nolan's World War II service and Hosparus' care, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org) or Hosparus (hosparushealth.org). Nolan's legacy of kindness, service, and love will forever live in the hearts of those he touched.

October 12, 2025

My grandpa´s spirit made it´s way home, after 100 and ¾ years of life, on October 8th, 2025. He was surrounded by love- His children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.
Grandpa led a beautiful and extraordinary life. He enjoyed telling, or rather retelling, stories from his service and was passionate about educating the truth of our Country´s history. His humor and wit never faded- at one point telling Jettman, who was learning how to sing, that he "wished he were a radio, so I could turn him off." Classic.
Our physical life is short and precious. Share your children with their grandparents. Share your children with their great-grandparents. There should be no stipulations on love or connection.
I feel so lucky to have been a part of my Grandpa´s journey, and I am so thankful that he was a part of mine. I hope we meet again in every lifetime.
