Nora was born on Thursday, October 22, 1942 in Mt. Herman, LA and passed away Monday, September 15, 2025 in Natchez, MS surrounded by loved ones. Nora was a hardworking woman whose hands were never still and whose heart was always giving. For ten years, she cooked on a tugboat, feeding crews with the same passion she poured into every meal at home. Her love for cooking was more than a skill-it was her way of showing care to everyone around her. Nora also worked as a school bus driver and later at Natchez State Park, where her love of the outdoors flourished. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, and even cutting grass, finding joy in nature's simple gifts. Known for her neatness, she would have ironed everything if given the chance. Above all, Nora cherished her children and grandchildren, loving them deeply and leaving behind a legacy of devotion. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.
She was reunited with her parents, James Barber and Carrie Waters Barber; siblings, Wanzie Rowell, Jimmy Barber, Alvis Barber, and Rudolph Barber; and daughter, Debra Gossett.
Those left to cherish Nora's memory is her daughter, Cindy Guzman of Natchez, MS; son, Larry Mize & his wife Marci of GA; grandchildren, Heather Otwell & her husband Adam, Alex Gossett & Katie, Derek Aucoin, Justin Guzman, Ashlyn Mize, and Carleigh Mize; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Aucoin, Grayson Aucoin, Izzy Robertson, Tristan Hollis, Abbigail Gossett, and Jacob Otwell; best-friend, Elizabeth Wallace; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Those honoring Nora as pallbearers are Adam Otwell, Alex Gossett, Derek Aucoin, Justin Guzman, Frankie Torries, and Matt Long.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Gossett.
