Norbert "Jim" Allen

Norbert James Allen, affectionately known as Jim, 83, of Newington, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024. He was born in Montville on September 29, 1940, the only child of the late Norbert and Harriett (Seaburg) Allen. Jim was a lifelong CT resident and earned his bachelor's degree from Bates College in Maine. He served our country as a member of the United States Navy and was honorably discharged as a Lt. J.G. Jim went on to a successful career as a Telephonic Specialist at The Hartford Insurance Co., where he also ran the employee sports program. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and stuck with them through thick and thin over the years. Jim loved to golf and was a 45 year member of the Tallwood Country Club Men's Club in Hebron. He also loved the ocean and trips to the beach. One of the more relaxing hobbies Jim enjoyed was cooking and developing recipes.
Jim is survived by his only daughter and the love of his life, Shannon Allen; his longtime partner and soulmate, Barbara Horne; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim had a huge circle of close friends that will miss him dearly, especially his stories and his sense of humor.
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. The Duksa Family Funeral Home at Newington Memorial is assisting with the arrangements. Memorial donations in Jim's name may be made to the American Lung Association at www.lung.org or to Tunnel to Towers at www.t2t.org.
