Norbert George Harpring, 92, of Rushville, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Norb was born on May 21, 1933 in Rush County, Indiana; the son of Benno J. and Rose Mary (Naderman) Harpring. He graduated from Rushville High School in 1951. In 1953, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War and spent two years stationed in Worms, Germany – an experience that allowed him to travel across Europe and meet extended family with whom he formed lifelong bonds.
Upon returning home to Rushville, Norb devoted his life to farming, taking over his father's farm land, and working the land he loved. He met the love of his life, Bernadette Lamping at the Coon Hunter's Lodge in Batesville, and 3 months later proposed on Christmas Eve. Norb and Bernie were married on June 1, 1957 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg and celebrated 66 years of a joyful, faith-filled marriage until her passing in December 2023. Norb was a lifelong devout member of St. Mary Catholic Church. His life centered around faith, family, card games, and sports – especially baseball and basketball. He was the biggest Rushville Lion fan and took great pride in cheering on his children and grandchildren at their games as well. Known for his endearing sense of humor and the many stories and memories he loved to share, Norb brought joy to all who knew and loved him.
Norb is survived by his seven children: Edward (Mary Ann) Harpring of Rushville, Lawrence (Jennifer) Harpring of Rushville, Linda Harpring of Rushville, Joann (Bruce) Fenimore of Rushville, Kristine (JD) Herbert of Rushville, Brian (Wendy) Harpring of Brookville, and Carol (Bart) Johnson of Indianapolis. He was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four sisters – Evelyn Heckman, Alberta Harpring, Helen Navara, twin sister Norma Streit, one brother – Benno L. Harpring, and 1 great grandchild.
