Norma Jean Ecklar

Norma Jean Long Ecklar, 90, of Cynthiana, KY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at her home. She was born December 20, 1934, in Water Valley, Mississippi to the late Sidney Allen and Eloise Leigh Long. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by twin brothers, Leigh Allen Long and Sidney Crawford Long.
She cherished her family and loved her students, teaching school for more than 20 years, She and her husband owned Old Macdonald's Dairy Barn for more than 31 years, and she graduated from Georgetown College with a teaching degree. She was also an honorary Kentucky Colonel. Norma enjoyed sewing and knitting, had a love for cooking and reading, adored cats, liked camping, and had a fondness for flowers and nature. She loved the color blue and collecting antiques.
Norma is survived by her husband, Ronald Rees Ecklar; daughter, Leigh Ann Ecklar (Mark) Cockrell; grandchildren, Brent Alan (Stacia) Cockrell, Lindsey Leigh (Skyler) Jones; great-grandchildren, Brynlea Rees Cockrell, Zane Alan Cockrell, Kolby Samuel Jones, and Cora Leigh Jones.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 2:00P.M. at Cynthiana Baptist Church with visitation prior to the service at 12:00P.M. until the time of service. Bro. Michael Cannon will officiate the services, and burial will follow in Battle Grove Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Mark Cockrell, Brent Cockrell, Zane Cockrell, Skyler Jones, Kolby Jones, Anthony Ecklar, and Caleb Ecklar. Honorary pallbearers will be the special ladies who assisted in caring for Norma: Lori Marsh, Martha Sullivan, Beverly Wade, Kimberly King, Stephanie Haley, Nitosha Moore, Brandi Earlywine, Adysin Earlywine, Bailee Lizer, Nicole Hicks, Katelin Ecklar, Brenda Hamilton, Amber Kendall, Tatum Cummings, and Connie Hibbard.
