Norma Jean Fortino, a cherished member of her family and community, passed away on October 11, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on September 19, 1950, Norma was a woman of many talents and interests, dedicating her life to both her career and her family.
Norma spent many years as a dog groomer, where she shared her love for animals and artistry. Additionally, she served as a clerical supervisor at St. Joseph's Hospital, managing several departments. Her commitment to excellence in her work was evident to all who knew her.
Outside her professional life, Norma was a woman of varied hobbies and interests. She had a flair for modeling. Norma had a love of reading, particularly on her Kindle, and playing bridge. Norma took great pleasure in playing games and was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, finding joy in the camaraderie of sports.
Her family is left to cherish her memory, including her loving husband, Joseph Fortino; her daughter, Dana (John) Nalls; and her son, Lee (Darlene) Tafel. Norma was also a proud grandmother to Thomas, David, Brigid, Steven, Karen, Ashley, and Chris, and a great-grandmother to Hunter and LJ. She is survived by her brothers, Patrick (Linda) Frawley and George Frawley, and her sister Julie (John) Paczos. And her brother-in-law, Chuck (Renee) Fortino. Along with several nieces and nephews.
Norma was not only a devoted family member but also an accomplished athlete, having earned recognition as a semi-pro bowler, a testament to her dedication and skill.
She was predeceased by her parents, Norman and Eleanor Frawley, her brothers, Ronald, Mike, and Richard, and her sister, Linda. Norma Jean Fortino's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her contributions to her family, work, and community will be fondly remembered.
Family and friends may call on October 20, 2025, from 1 pm to 4 pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St N. Syracuse, NY 13212, with a service to follow at 4 pm.
